I’ve had a few friends congratulate me on starting my coaching biz lately and tell me that “they will make sure to refer anyone who needs my services to me”.
I know they meant it from the heart. I loved them for it.
It also made me smile.
Cause the truth is, be ready for it, NO ONE NEEDS A COACH. Like EVER.
As a human on the planet Earth what you actually need is
Air
Water
Minimum of food
Some shelter to protect you from the elements
You certainly don’t NEED a coach
You also don’t need:
Education
A house
You don’t NEED sex
You don’t need quality friends
Gourmet dinners at Bern’s steakhouse
Private school for your children
You definitely don’t need a Tesla
Having a coach is absolutely a privilege, not a need.
In fact, I wouldn’t dream of HIRING a coach even mere few years ago. I’d think you are bonkers, or spoiled and overprivileged brat, if you suggested that I do. Or a narcissist. I’m serious.
You see, I grew up in Russia. Even though my own mom was a teacher and grandmother a doctor, and I was raised with absolute respect and admiration for education and all kind of teachers and helpers (free high quality education, and universal healthcare, anyone?), I also grew up with stories of that same grandmother witnessing famine. And war. You know the kind when you are a kid down to bare bones and have to literally fight to survive. On plants growing in the wild. A piece of bread. A day. I was TAUGHT to value education. But on a cellular level in my own body I KNEW I needed to learn how to survive. On my own, if necessary.
Not until I lived for quite a few years in America, with my pantry and fridge fully stocked haha, having done years and years of self-studying and always scouting for all the free resources available before I’d even consider to spend $0.99 on a book hahaha, did I start appreciating actually paying $$$ for coaching programs, masterminds, seminars, you name it.
It took me years and years to fully get the difference from reading a book or watching a youtube video to working 1:1 with a coach. Don’t get me wrong, I have no regrets. I am absolutely proud of how far I’ve gone on my own and wouldn’t change a thing. I also am sooo grateful for having courage to continue to move forward until I took a leap of faith and actually invested in myself. Now, because I am 100% committed to my growth and my mission of making positive impact on the world, I am obsessed. My mindset changed from “Jeez, I have to pay someone to coach me?? Aren’t they supposed to want to help? Why don’t they do it for free? They are hypocrites!!” to “OMG, I am so blessed to have amazing coaches available to me I can hire to propel me to the next level. What shall I focus on next? Who is the best coach for that I resonate with?” I am not going back.
You see, no one actually needs a coach.
Yet all the best highest performers in the world have coaches.
